Cloud Nine: A meditative and musical sensory experience

WA’s professional chamber choir, The Giovanni Consort, will deliver their acclaimed meditative musical experience Cloud Nine to regional audiences for the first time, hitting the Margaret River HEART on July 6.

An opportunity for mindfulness and stillness, audiences will be transported to a realm of hushed tones, shimmering vocals and calm relaxation under the expert guidance of Perth’s finest singers.

The Giovanni Consort General Manager Kate McNamara said participants are provided the opportunity to sit or lie down, with eye masks providing complete darkness, while singers move around the audience as they perform a continuous stream of evocative and relaxing music.

“Each audience member enjoys a unique experience, as different voices travel around them, with the darkness serving to further heighten the sensory experience,” McNamara said.

“Cloud Nine is accessible to people of all ages, from the very young, to the young at heart, and is a fun and relaxing way to experience high quality choral singing, both for the first-timers and the well initiated.”

Two immersive performances will be offered, with a daytime session catering to school-aged children and an evening session tailored to both adults and families.

Cloud Nine ticketholders will also be offered the opportunity to work with The Giovanni Consort at a free community choir workshop held the evening prior on Tuesday 5 July.

The collaboration will allow community members to further develop and understand their own singing voices and share The Giovanni Consort’s expertise on ensemble singing through learning some of their favourite repertoire. The workshop is suitable for all ages and all abilities, with no musical background required.
