HEART Grants encourage community access
Margaret River HEART Grants Program funding has helped over 40 regional event organisers host events at the Margaret River HEART since launching in February 2020.
The program is designed to support and activate arts, culture and business activities at the HEART by assisting event organisers with the costs of hosting an event at the facility, such as venue hire, staffing, cleaning, ticketing and marketing costs.
HEART General Manager Nicky Hansen said Margaret River has so many vibrant creative people with some outstanding event ideas.
“Some events are arts related, some are about business and economy or just sharing information,” she said.
“The grants are about encouraging and supporting event organisers with their event development and assisting with costs so that the whole process is more manageable, which in turn, leads to improved access to the venue for the broader community.”
In the 2020-2021 financial year a total of $63,000 of funding was allocated across 21 events. A total of $80,000 in funding has been either allocated or approved for project delivery across 19 events in the 2021-2022 financial year.
A further $40,000 of funding has been allocated to projects in the 2022-2023 financial year to date, inclusive of anticipated applications yet to be processed.
“Our grants program has played a vital role in facilitating so many successful events – CinefestOZ, Readers and Writers Festival, the inaugural Fire and Biodiversity Forum and Margaret River Theatre Group’s annual pantomime, Alice in Pantoland – just to name a few,” Ms Hansen said.
“We’re keen to continue fostering strong community partnerships and connecting locals to meaningful experiences.”
Projects that may be eligible for a HEART Grant include events which:
- Build capacity in local businesses.
- Increase visitation and tourism expenditure in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.
- Promote the Margaret River HEART as an arts, culture and business events venue.
- Foster strong community partnerships.
Applications are open all year round and must take place within 12 months of the applicant’s submission date.
