Education innovation shared at seminar
Over 100 parents and educators attended a seminar on an inspiring education innovation pioneered by Victorian school Geelong Grammar held at Margaret River HEART last week.
Geelong Grammar School’s Institute of Positive Education’s lead trainer Jo Wiese presented a focus on personal transformation through teaching practical skills that positive psychology science shows has significant and lasting impact on well-being.
Hosted by Margaret River Independent School (MRIS), the seminar was well attended with many participants saying they were inspired to put practical skills like promoting resilience; increasing awareness of character strengths; nurturing relationships and giving effective feedback into practice in their everyday family life.
MRIS Principal Wendy Roediger said she was thrilled with the community attendance and there were plans in place for the school to host further community education sessions on positive education and wellbeing in the future.
“Positive Education is about fostering student’s strengths to help them do well academically, discover their passions and find meaningful and fulfilling careers,” she said.
To further embed the culture of Positive Education at MRIS, teaching staff attended a professional development workshop with Jo Wiese the following day.
