‘Eight’ and ‘Bellbird’ double bill at HEART
Community members are invited to enjoy a double bill at the Margaret River HEART this Friday night, with the opening of Christopher Young’s photography exhibition Eight: The Shift and a screening of the New Zealand film Bellbird.
Artist Christopher Young’s exhibition looks at end-of-life cultural experiences; how people respond to such experiences; and the environments and institutions they encounter.
“These experiences are universal, and this work has the capacity to extend dialogue, both within the arts as well as in connection to larger social issues”, Mr Young said.
Eight: The Shift was exhibited at the Perth Centre for Photography in September 2019 and will continue to Bunbury Regional Art Galleries in November 2020, as well the Albany Town Hall later in 2021.
Bellbird is a beautiful film that tells the story of how a rural community rally around a recently widowed farmer to help him cope with grief, while the farmer’s son also struggles to find his own way.
The comedy-drama was filmed just 30 kilometres from the small New Zealand town where exhibiting artist Mr Young grew up and touches on similar themes to ones explored in his current exhibition at the HEART.
Art and cinema lovers are encouraged to attend the evening of warm, humorous and heartfelt exchanges around loss, love and hope.
